Verified update: ONS reported on 15 October that construction output in Great Britain fell by an estimated 1.0% in the three months to August 2026. Monthly output fell by 0.2% in August. These are estimates for the wider industry, not a measure of ventilation workload.

Read the period and geography correctly

The bulletin covers Great Britain: England, Scotland and Wales. Over the three-month period, new work fell by 1.4% and repair and maintenance by 0.3%. In August alone, repair and maintenance increased by 0.4%. The release also revises earlier estimates. A monthly movement and a three-month movement therefore describe different comparisons.

Cliventa commentary: check the live package

A national output figure cannot establish whether an installation team is available for a particular hotel, office or fit-out package. Nor does it establish the price of ductwork, the readiness of a workface or a supplier's fabrication lead time. Buyers should keep those project checks separate from their market briefing.

Before reissuing a ventilation enquiry, compare the tender programme with the latest site programme. Record which areas can actually be released, what information is approved and whether access depends on another trade. If a proposed start has moved, ask for an updated availability review rather than relying on an earlier quotation.

Four tender checks before refreshing the price

  1. Confirm the enquiry revision.Issue a dated drawing and specification register so all bidders price the same information.
  2. Separate dates from assumptions.Identify the required start, phased access and any client decisions still outstanding.
  3. Check the supply interfaces.State who procures ductwork, fans, supports and terminals, and who confirms delivery dates.
  4. Record quotation validity.Ask each bidder to state the period and conditions under which its offer remains available.

Compare offers on a common scope

A lower headline price is difficult to evaluate if one offer assumes unrestricted access and another includes repeated mobilisation. Use a common clarification schedule for access equipment, unloading, storage, fire interfaces, testing responsibilities and handover records. The ventilation scope-before-award guide can help organise that discussion.

For a ductwork installation package, send the actual project information with the enquiry. Treat market statistics as context for commercial planning; use project-specific confirmations to agree the package. This commentary is a procurement aid, not a forecast of prices or a promise of labour availability.
