Industry development: BESA announced its Managing Projects in the Built Environment qualification on 1 September 2026. Its stated focus includes building safety, procurement decisions, risk assurance, stakeholder engagement and information management.

What has been announced

BESA says the programme was developed with Provek and technical input from Mellor Bromley, and is endorsed by the Association for Project Management. It is aimed at experienced project and programme managers. The announcement describes a qualification mapped to built-environment-specific competence content in England.

This is a professional development route, not a new statutory licence for every UK project manager. Buyers should check the course provider's current entry criteria and content. This article does not claim that Cliventa personnel hold the qualification or that attendance alone establishes competence for a particular appointment.

Cliventa commentary: coordinate decisions as well as dates

A ventilation programme can show an installation start while leaving the necessary design and interface decisions unresolved. Package coordination should therefore identify what must be decided, who can decide it and what evidence allows work to proceed. A date without those dependencies can conceal a hold point.

For example, a revised ceiling layout may affect terminal positions and access. The useful response is a clear information request, a named decision owner and a recorded issue revision. Informal agreement at the workface should not become the only record of a design change.

A practical coordination meeting agenda

  1. Information ready for use.Confirm the drawing, specification and schedule revisions for each planned zone.
  2. Open decisions.List questions with an owner, required date and impact on fabrication or installation.
  3. Trade interfaces.Review ceiling zones, builders' work, access, electrical connections and other defined interfaces.
  4. Evidence for release.Agree the checks and records needed before a zone is closed or handed over.

Use the same structure in the tender

Ask the enquiry team to identify coordination responsibilities before comparing offers. State whether the installation contractor is expected to attend design coordination, produce marked-up records, manage a material schedule or support testing coordination. Keep those tasks distinct from any design responsibility held elsewhere.

The ductwork programme guide explains how information release and workface access affect sequencing. For a ventilation installation package, send the latest project brief and constraints with the RFQ. This commentary provides a meeting structure; it does not substitute for the appointed project manager or designer.
